Minnesota Family Council’s Scare Tactics

I just had to weigh in on this-- the Minnesota Monitor wrote about the Minnesota Family Council's (MFC) most recent efforts to freak out parents:
The Family Council conducted robo-calls throughout the Twin Cities over the last month in an effort to defeat a bill that would require Minnesota schools to offer comprehensive family life and sexuality education.
But when the MFC's robotic calling system leaves messages such as this one… (warning: probably not safe for work):
(partial transcript: ...anal sex and oral anal sex. Here's how you can help Gov. Pawlenty protect your children from unhealthy sex ed. Press one to be connected to Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher. Politely ask Speaker Kelliher to protect our children and remove unhealthy sex education...)
...then you end up with some frustrated parents whose kids inadvertently learned about anal and oral sex just because they picked up the phone or checked the voicemail.
Here's the deal-the Responsible Sex Ed bill that the MFC so vehemently opposes is not at all a bill that will mandate that MN kids learn about anal and oral sex. It's a bill that would give local control to schools and communities to determine how to teach a set of standards including discussion about contraception, STIs, healthy relationships, and abstinence.
And considering that 90% of MN parents want responsible sex ed in the schools, groups like the MFC have to resort to scare tactics and deception to influence people.
Thanks to the MFC, rather then having medically-accurate, age-appropriate sex ed, we have robots teaching sex ed. Thanks MFC.
