Web Correspondent Emily explains the importance of supporting reproductive rights as we celebrate our freedom this Independence Day.
On the Fourth of July, we celebrate our country's independence and democracy. Living in America is a great privilege. We have many rights and protections under our government. For the last 35 years, we've had the promise of safe, legal abortion. Roe may not have realized its full potential, yet (many women struggle to find a doctor, afford the procedure and keep the state from meddling in their lives) there is still plenty to celebrate when it comes to reproductive rights.

Help us celebrate our 80th anniversary of service by attending this special event with Doris Kearns Goodwin on October 21st, 2008 at the Minneapolis Hilton.
Doris Kearns Goodwin, a world-renowned historian, has been reporting on politics for over two decades. Mrs. Goodwin is the author of several books and has written for leading national publications. She is a commentator for NBC, and a consultant and on-air person for PBS documentaries on Lyndon B. Johnson, the Kennedy Family and Franklin Roosevelt. In 1995, she won the Pulitzer Prize for History and her most recent biography, Team of Rivals, has been adapted into the upcoming Steven Spielberg film, Lincoln, starring Liam Neeson and Sally Field.
