By now we all know that Minnesota elected a pro-choice President, but do you know what other pro-choice candidates made the cut?
Listen to my interview with Tim Stanley, Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund, by using the player below. You can can also subscribe to our podcast in itunes.
In the State House, we held onto our narrow pro-choice majority and gained at least 2 additional pro-family planning seats! Unfortunately, we also lost a few of our strongest supporters; most notably, Ron Erhardt (Edina) lost his re-election bid. Ron had served Edina for 18 years and was the last pro-choice Republican in the Minnesota House.
At the Federal level, we await the results of the U.S. Senate race and are hopeful that a recount will bring victory for Al Franken! However, several pro-choice candidates were elected to U.S. Congress including Betty McCollum, Keith Ellison and Tim Walz!
Check out the list of pro-choice candidates that won on Tuesday on the list to the right!———>
Thanks for voting!!! It really makes a difference!

Dear PP,
I really hope that you will get real in the 2010 election and pull the plug on the Erhardt support machine. Your financial and marketing support for Erhardt when he ran as a 3rd party candidate cost Edina a pro-choice legislator and is why anti-choice Keith Downey is now in office. Your support (and that of NARAL) led to a split of the moderate voting base in Edina as half supported the DFL Candidate, Stanton, and half, Erhardt. Up until a couple days before the election you actually had posted on your website that Erhardt was the only pro-choice candidate in the district! You sent out emails implying he was the only choice if you were pro-choice. Do I sound angry? I am.
Endorsements are NOT just about “loyalty” - they are about getting the right people elected. Was there any doubt that the Dems would field a pro-choice candidate? Mr. Erhardt, by the way, was by all accounts asked to be this candidate and declined. Mr. Stanton is running against Mr. Erhardt for the DFL endorsement this time. If Erhardt doesn’t step aside after he loses the endorsement and runs again as an independent, I would hope you would do the right thing and endorse Stanton this time.
