35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade a Powerful Reminder That The Struggle for Women’s Health and Safety Continues
(St. Paul, MN)—On the anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota (PPMNS) celebrated 35 years of freedom for women and families and vowed to continue the fight to protect women’s health, increase access to affordable health care and birth control, and expand access to comprehensive sex ed.
“The right to a safe and legal abortion is supported by the majority of Americans, but we also recognize that there is so much more our country can and should do to help women and couples prevent unintended pregnancies,” said Tim Stanley, PPMNS Senior Director of Government and Public Affairs.
“PPMNS would like to thank the Governor and the Minnesota legislature for taking positive, concrete steps last legislative session to prevent unintended pregnancies by increasing public funding for family planning,” Stanley said.
“This year we know that citizens, parents and lawmakers will be working together to pass comprehensive sex education for Minnesota school students. We know that comprehensive sex education is critical to keeping our young people safe and healthy and to preventing teen pregnancies,” said Stanley.
Last year in communities across our region, Planned Parenthood provided more than 60,000 women, men and teens with the information, education and services they need to protect their health, prevent unintended pregnancy, plan and space healthy, wanted pregnancies — and ultimately, to fulfill their dreams and destinies.
