Minnesota Choice Coalition Presents Events to Engage, Activate, Educate Around 35th Anniversary of Roe v Wade

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Roe v Wade decision, the Minnesota Choice Coalition is proud to present a series of events designed to engage, activate and educate pro-choice supporters across the Twin Cities leading up to the January 22nd anniversary of the landmark ruling. The Minnesota Choice Coalition is comprised of eight organizations dedicated to women's health and justice issues.


The first event takes place 6p.m. tomorrow, January 17th,  at International Market Square 245 Market Street in Minneapolis. The keynote speaker is former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jocelyn Elders. Dr. Elders was  the 15th US Surgeon General and the first African American woman to hold the post. Nominated as Surgeon General by President Clinton, Dr. Elders stated "I want to change the way we think about health by putting prevention first. I want to be the voice and vision of the poor and powerless. I want to change concern about social problems that affect health into commitment. And I would like to make every child born in America a wanted child". The evening will be emceed by Jessica Valenti, author of Full Frontal Feminism: A Young Woman's Guide to Why Feminism Matters . Her writing has been featured in Ms. Magazine, Salon, The Guardian (UK), The Scholar & Feminist and AlterNet.

The organizations that comprise the Minnesota Choice Coalition include Midwest Health Center for Women, Minnesota Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Foundation,  National Council of Jewish Women, NOW, Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Women Winning.
