U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) has been fighting for women and families for more than two decades. Every day, she works to protect women's access to preventive health services and birth control without a co-pay, while also supporting a woman's right to make her own personal medical decisions—without interference from politicians.
As she said in a recent floor speech on the Supreme Court birth control coverage cases, "What is at stake before the Supreme Court is whether a CEO's beliefs can trump a woman's right to healthcare." She added that women "should have access to quality medical care no matter who signs their paycheck."

Today, the Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota (PPMNS) Action Fund applauds Governor Mark Dayton’s selection of Tina Smith as his Lieutenant Governor candidate. The following is a statement from Sarah Stoesz, President of the PPMNS Action Fund, on the announcement.
"For more than two decades, Tina Smith has been a respected leader on behalf of women's economic security and women's rights at the city, state, and national level. She's been a champion in the ongoing effort to break down barriers to economic stability for all women and their families. She is smart, bold, hard-working, and knows Minnesota. She'll be an outstanding Lieutenant Governor.
"In selecting Smith, Governor Dayton has once again demonstrated his strong commitment to women's issues, particularly women’s access to the health care they need to maintain healthy lives and healthy families. There is no Governor in the country who is as strong a champion for women as Mark Dayton.
"Smith has had a very successful career working in business, the non-profit sector, and government. It has truly been our good fortune that over the past three years she's brought her immense talent and energy to the position of Chief of Staff for the Governor, bringing people together to creatively assess problems, find solutions, and make government work better for Minnesotans. I look forward to her leadership as Minnesota’s Lieutenant Governor."
Founded in 1992, the Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization. As the political arm of PPMNS, we mobilize supporters of all parties to defend and increase access to family planning services and fact based, medically accurate sexuality education. We work to inspire and engage citizens to take up the cause of reproductive health and rights through education, electoral activity, grassroots organizing and legislative advocacy.
President Obama’s reelection – and the state-level successes in Minnesota – are a historic victory for women’s health, according to the Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund (PPMNSAF).
“This is a resounding
victory for women – and by women. More than ever before, women’s health was a
decisive issue in this election. Minnesotans voted to ensure that women will
have access to affordable health care and be able to make their own medical
decisions,” said Sarah Stoesz, President of the PPMNSAF.
We’re in the final days of the election season. Join Planned Parenthood this weekend for a phone bank finale in St. Paul. We’ll be calling to ensure people have vital voter information like where to vote and what to bring. In addition, we’ll be asking folks to stand with Planned Parenthood and vote “NO” on the two constitutional amendments that are on the MN ballot.
According to a Star Tribune poll, the marriage amendment is a virtual tie. The Photo-ID amendment is close as well, with 6% of Minnesota voters undecided. These amendments would change the Minnesota Constitution. In addition, the Photo-ID amendment would have a devastating effect on future elections.
If you’d like to join us this weekend please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org. The phone banks will all be held at 671 Vandalia St. in St. Paul. There is a parking ramp available.
Phone Bank Times Include:
- Saturday 11/3 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. AND 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Sunday 11/4 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. AND 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Monday 11/5 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
No prior phone-banking experience is required. In fact, it is pretty easy. You will be helping lots of Minnesota voters find essential voter information!
